| Description | Works have started on an 85 MW wind energy recovery farm in Zaafarana backed by Spanish credits under $ 90 million total investments. Meanwhile negotiations are said to be going with Japan to back the extension of the said farm by 120 MW additional capacities. Both projects would increase the country overall wind energy recovery capacities to 350 MW by 2006. According to Eng. Hassan Al Kholi, Chairman of NREA - New & Renewable Energy Authority, two land lots of 80 Km2 & 76 Km2 along the Red Sea Coast have been allocated for further large sized wind energy recovery projects. The official has indicated that the West Suez Gulf Zone is deemed among the most promising areas in the world in terms of wind energy recovery potential considering a high wind speed all over the year. That applies to areas of Abul Darag, Zaafarana, Zeit Bay & Hurghada. |
